After reading so many of the class bios, I realized I needed to update
mine so here goes:
After high school, I attended one semester at UW-Madison before seeking fame
and fortune in Chicago. I spent 6 months living downtown on N. Dearborn and
working at the Sun Times – had a great time and met lots of very interesting
characters but, alas, no fame and fortune. Returned to the UW in the fall of
1970 and earned first a degree in Anthropology and then, realizing I still
needed to earn a fortune, went back and got a BBA in Business – Personnel
Management. All this time I lived downtown and worked at the old Methodist
Hospital on W. Washington. (Some of my closest friends I still have from
those days at Methodist) I married in 1976 and had two wonderful daughters.
Lisa, who just turned 29, just was married in Kansas City last month. She
has a wonderful husband, Nick and very nice in-laws from North Dakota. Lisa
and Nick met in Minneapolis while working for the same company and going to
school. My youngest daughter, Jessica, followed in her Dad’s footsteps and
earned a degree from UW-Madison. She now works in Madison as an interior
designer.
I divorced in 1996 but was lucky to find my true soul mate a couple of years
later, Terri, and re-married in 2000. I now have a step daughter, Jill, who
will be attending school at John Carroll University in Cleveland this fall.
After 29 years of daughters, cats and dogs (the later two also all females),
Terri and I will now have an empty nest, save one 20 year old cat, so we
will have time to travel, golf and enjoy.
I have worked at the University Of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics for the past
25 years as a department director. Terri works for the department of
Medicine as the HR Manager. It now looks like retirement is close to
reality. Had first planned on retiring in April 2009 but the market and the
economy squashed that plan. Now with market back up who knows – maybe tow
more years?
Terri and I live on the far east side of Madison. Our pride now is our
in-ground pool we had built 3 years ago (your may have seen it in Madison
Magazine in the Backyard Escapes article – we didn’t even know about it
until Terri saw the picture while I was getting a haircut!) Life is good.
Anyone up for a swim on the Sunday after the reunion?
We love to travel. After the reunion in August, we plan on a two week trip
to the East Coast. Plan on stopping in D.C. and then heading up to Maine for
a few days of lobster and sights. Last Summer we spent 2 weeks in the
Rockies and had a great time – so much to see in our own backyards!
Looking forward to seeing faces I have not seen for many years. I still stay
in touch and see George Hartung who resides in Minnesota as well as Jeff
Saunders in Madison. I run in to a few old classmates ever so often – i.e.
Jim Block, Brian Thompson, but looking back, I’m sure there are many of you
still in Madison but our paths never cross.
I have really enjoyed many of the bios – especially Pat Dieter’s and Barrett
Browning’s. Nice job guys!! Brings back old memories!
See everyone on August 8th!! Tom
